Surgical Update - Septorhinoplasty |
Balance between facial features is the key to beauty when we look at a person's face. Of all facial features, the nose is the most prominent and undoubtedly the one many patients would most like to change. Septorhinoplasty, more commonly referred to as a "nose job", is surgery to reshape the nose. This operation can change the profile, the width, the tip or the nostril's shape. In addition to removing undesirable bulges, Dr. Antoniak can make the nose more diminutive or larger, narrower, shorter, longer, or more symmetrical to your face. The goal is to give you a natural looking nose that is well suited to your face and more aesthetically pleasing. Septorhinoplasty is performed as an outpatient surgery at the Riverside Hospital. Normally performed under general anaesthesia, the procedure takes only 1.5 hours to 2 hours on average to perform. The common surgical technique performed by Dr. Antoniak is the "open approach", involving the placement of incisions inside the rim of the nostrils and across their base. This approach allows for better exposure for the surgeon and barely visible scars for the patient once healing is complete. Surprisingly, there is very little pain after the procedure with most patients back to work after 7-10 days.
Dr. Antoniak, having been voted "Top 10 Surgeons in Canada" status by Flare magazine, has been performing nose surgeries in Ottawa for over 20 years. As an ENT specialist with an expert aesthetic eye to facial balance and detail, he is most commonly who other doctors refer to when complicated cases arise. Always trust your face to an experienced specialist!

Exciting New Technology - Palomar 1540 Fractionated Laser |
Do facial wrinkles, acne scars, large pores and uneven skin texture trouble you?
Now you can enjoy a more youthful-looking skin with the Palomar Starlux® Laser system.
The Starlux System uses the Lux 1540™ Fractional Non-Ablative Laser Handpiece to deliver light as an array of microbeams, which create columns of coagulated tissue within the skin. Creation of the columns starts a natural healing process that forms new, healthy tissue. This results in a more youthful-looking skin. Non-Ablative methods are easier on the skin because it leaves the epidermis in place, which allows for quick recovery. Conversely, ablative methods such as CO2 lasers, remove the epidermis and some of the dermis. Although this can produce good results the drawbacks include red/raw skin, a prolonged downtime as well as other potential risks. Fractional Non-Ablative Skin Resurfacing is a unique method, which delivers excellent results and virtually no downtime, while leaving the stratum corneum in place. The Lux 1540™ microbeams penetrate deeper into the epidermis and dermis and stimulates quick healing, with no lasting redness. This treatment is suited for most areas of the body, including the face, chest, arms and hands. Best candidates complain of mild facial wrinkles, acne and surgical scars, as well as stubborn brown pigmentation. You may experience redness, warmth, swelling or tightness in the treated area, which typically fades within a few hours of treatment. The skin may have a pinkish tone for 5-7 days. Patients receive four treatments spaced one month apart for best results. It is imperative that the skin is well hydrated and protected from the sun throughout the course of treatment. Most patients return to work the following day without any recovery time and the best part is due to the light being delivered in microbeams; the Lux 1540™ causes only minor discomfort during treatment.

BOTOX Cosmetic® - Myths & Facts |
It is always important to be educated about your medical choices. Just a few facts to set the record straight!
Myth #1: BOTOX Cosmetic® is unsafe.
FACT: BOTOX Cosmetic® has a long and well-established safety history. While you may only know BOTOX Cosmetic® as a wrinkle treatment, it has actually been in use for over 18 years for the effective treatment of a range of medical conditions and is one of the most widely researched medicines in the world.1,2
Myth #2: BOTOX Cosmetic® will result in the loss of facial expression.
FACT: BOTOX Cosmetic® is intended to enhance the way you look, not change it. When administered by an experienced physician or Registered Nurse, you can still smile, frown and animate. The treatment only relaxes the muscle beneath the lines at the point of injection, so the other elements of facial expression remain active. It also has no effect on the sensory nerves, so you will have normal feeling in the treated areas.1
Myth #3: BOTOX Cosmetic® is botulism (food poisoning).
FACT: BOTOX Cosmetic® is not botulism. It is a purified protein and a finished medical prescription product proven to be very safe through extensive research and testing.1
Myth #4: BOTOX Cosmetic® treatment is painful.
FACT: BOTOX Cosmetic® treatment is quick and simple. A very fine needle and small amount of liquid is used, so the pain associated with the injection is minimal. No anaesthetic is required, and you can resume normal activities immediately.1
Myth #5: BOTOX Cosmetic® injections can be given anywhere.
FACT: BOTOX Cosmetic® is a technique-sensitive procedure. Dr. Antoniak and his team of RNs are recognized by Allergan in their top 45 clinic profile nationally. Make sure to visit a well-trained clinic for your treatment and discuss the optimal results you would like to achieve. BOTOX Cosmetic® should only be administered in appropriate medical settings.1,2
Myth #6: There are creams that are better than BOTOX Cosmetic®
FACT: There is no scientific evidence that supports that creams work better than BOTOX Cosmetic®. Creams work well on the surface of the skin.
Myth #7: BOTOX Cosmetic® is a filler.
FACT: Unlike facial fillers, BOTOX Cosmetic® doesn't fill in facial lines or restore volume loss. It relaxes the muscles underneath the skin that cause the lines. Facial fillers like Juvederm™ help to fill in facial lines and give back the volume that is lost over time.1
